The White House said Thursday that the United States will ensure that all related security concerns are addressed in Sweden and Finland during the two years. This applied for membership in NATO and before they were accepted into the coalition as well. This is according to the publication by Reuters.

The assurances came after Sweden and Finland raised concerns over NATO membership proposals that they could be vulnerable to threats. From Russia during the application process, which could take up to a year to get approved by all 30 NATO members.

White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki told a news conference: “We believe we can find a way to address any concerns that the two countries [Sweden-Finland] may face during this time. “The application period for NATO membership and the official membership of this coalition.”

Sweden and Finland are expected to make a formal decision on their application to join NATO this month.
